About Mandt

“The entire philosophy of The Mandt System® programs and services is based on “Putting People First” and on “Supporting People, Not Just Their Behaviors™”.

“One of the main goals of The Mandt System® is to teach you how to effectively manage a potentially negative or even dangerous situation by first calming your emotional response and managing your own behavior so you can interact with other people positively.  We do this by teaching principles, not techniques, in all our programs.”

“We teach that all people have the right to be treated with Dignity and Respect at all times.  We believe this is a right one does not need to earn.  We do our best to excel at this in all our relationships.”

“We Maintain a Focus on Prevention.  For every hour we teach restraint, we spend 3 hours on prevention.  We believe, as do many others, that building healthy relationships in the workplace is the primary ingredient in a prevention strategy.”

“Our secondary Focus is on De-escalation.  When we focus on de-escalation, we understand that escalation is an emotional process, requiring that de-escalation tools have emotional components.  People will not de-escalate, until they feel safe!”

David Mandt is the founder of the Mandt System in 1975.

“We believe that until you and the other person are de-escalated nothing positive will take place.”

“The Mandt System® teaches the use of a graded system of alternatives which uses the least amount of external management necessary in all situations.”

Conceptual

Ch. 4-  Trauma Informed System of Care - This chapter identifies the effects of trauma on people.  It focuses on developing an understanding of the ways in which trauma early in life effects development.  Interventions that address the whole person are discussed.  Develop strategies to minimize re-traumatization.

Ch. 5-  Positive Behavior Supports – This chapter is designed to be a stand-alone training if desired.  It provides an overview of behavior and behavior support.  The focus is on implementing a behavior support plan, not writing one.  It helps evaluate strengths and weaknesses of intervention strategies.  Learn more about setting events, antecedents, and reducing difficult behavior.
